Moving in Paris: AOT permit and reserved parking

Paris has its own system for moves: the AOT (temporary occupation permit). It authorises parking, but does not reserve the space. Here are the rules, according to the City of Paris.

The procedure

The application is made online with a "Mon Paris" account, at least 15 days before the move. Two separate applications are needed: one for the departure address, one for the arrival address. Moves are only allowed between 7 am and 8 pm.

When is the AOT required?

  • to park outside the paid-parking lane;
  • to stay more than 6 consecutive hours in the same place;
  • to use a furniture lift.

City of Paris fees

Per vehicle: heavy truck (over 3.5 t) €35 half-day / €60 day on the paid lane (€50 / €90 elsewhere); light vehicle €17 / €27 (€25 / €40); furniture lift €10 / €20 (€15 / €30). The fee covers the whole authorised length and duration, reservation period included.

The AOT is not a reservation

The City states that the AOT does not reserve a parking space and that no vehicle can be towed. To keep the space, you may reserve it yourself in advance ("ventousage"); this period is charged as part of the occupation. If the space is taken anyway, the AOT lets you use any free space in the nearby paid-parking lane.

We file both AOT applications for you, in French and within the deadline, then our sign installers reserve the space with our signs, the AOT displayed, with time-stamped photos.

Practical rules on the day

  • Moves are only allowed between 7 am and 8 pm.
  • Declare each vehicle through the link in the approval email; otherwise the AOT is no longer valid and a parking charge can be issued.
  • Outside the paid-parking lane, the AOT must be placed behind the windscreen.
  • No parking on bus stops, cycle lanes, police or cash-transport spaces; parking is refused on market days at the spaces concerned.
  • The date can be changed up to 2 working days before the move.

Film and photo shoots in Paris

For film shoots, parking for technical vehicles goes through the City's Mission Cinéma, 15 working days before the shoot, and the production may reserve the spaces up to 48 hours ahead. Some areas are limited to 5 vehicles (Paris Centre, the 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th arrondissements and Montmartre), and vehicles are limited to 35 m³.
